Dan with his Gretsch Tennessean Dan Davis - Mandolin, Mandola, Guitar, and Harmonica

As a teen, Dan Davis played guitar and sang in the West Phoenix band The Boss Beats back in '66. The drummer actually had a drum kit (but couldn't play it), and the bass player just used the lowest four strings of his crappy electric guitar. Their favorite tune was Psychotic Reaction, and they did gigs for five bucks, which goes to show that things haven't necessarily changed much since.

Somewhere along the way Dan picked up the mandolin, playing in bands like the Rialto Bros. (bluegrass), Catfish (string swing), Three-Legged Willie (mainstream country), and Big Galoot (surf-rock). He's always trying to slip his original tunes into the play list.
