The Determined Luddites

We are happy to announce the release of our second studio CD String Theory. Now available! Check out the CD page for more info.

The Determined Luddites are one of Tucson, Arizona's fastest rising acoustic music groups, playing a wide variety of styles and instruments in an energetic setting. They were voted best folk band in both the 2004 and 2005 Tucson Weekly Tammie Awards.

The Luddites are composed of:
Dan Davis on Mandolin, Mandola, Guitar, Harmonica, and Vocals
Dan Hostetler on Guitar, Mandolin, and Vocals
Randi Pantera on Bass and Vocals

The Luddites perform high energy acoustic alternative music (how about that for a genre?) The focus is on harmonious vocals, virtuoso instrumental performance, and strong rhythm. A Luddite show spans the wide range of acoustic traditions from the British Isles, America, and the Caribbean, and blends them together in a unique way. Instruments and styles are changed from song to song, and the result is always a good time for everyone.

Influences include everything from John Coltrane to the Pogues to Steve Earle to Doc Watson to David Grisman to Django Reinhardt to Boogsey Sharpe. One tune may be a traditional medley of Irish jigs, the next a sweet Texas waltz, the next a swinging gypsy tune, the next a punk anthem. We also have a range of original material both vocal and instrumental.
